THE coming on board of former vice president Lupando Mwape is of immense value and signifies that our party is attractive, says Democratic Assembly president Maxwell Mwamba.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Mwamba said that the appointment of former republican vice president Lupando as party national chairman was proof that the party was attractive as well as growing.

He said that the party was not only attracting the ‘‘big fish’’ but ordinary citizens and stated that other renowned politicians would soon join the party not because of material gain or money but because of its sound manifesto as well as constitution which was based on the unification of the country and alleviating poverty for the ordinary Zambians.

Mr Mwamba said that the appointment letter of Mr Mwape had been delivered to him and that as far as the party was concerned he was the chairman of the party.

“The appointment of honorable Lupando Mwape is of great value to the party and is symbolic that our party is attractive as well as growing.

‘‘It is not only the big fish that are joining our party but ordinary citizens because of our party manifesto and constitution which advocates for the unification of the country and alleviating poverty for the ordinary Zambian citizens, and not material gain,’’ he said.

Mr Mwamba, a former Luanshya mayor, said that the party would soon review its manifesto and constitution to make them more attractive as well as sound to the aspirations of citizens.

Mr Mwape, who served as vice president in the Levy Mwanawasa government, confirmed having received the letter of appointment but that he was still consulting on the matter.
