Govt determined to end poverty, says Kabanshi

GOVERNMENT is determined to end poverty in Zambia particularly among women and girls, Minister of Community Development and Social Services Emerine Kabanshi has said.
And Ms Kabanshi has handed over two vehicles to Lunga and Samfya districts to support the roll out of supporting women’s livelihood component of the girls’ education and women empowerment livelihood projects.
She said Government had bought 11 vehicles for the 11 phase one implementation districts.
She said to alleviate the current challenges of poverty, her ministry was focussing on programmes that would improve the livelihood of the extremely poor, especially women.
Ms Kabanshi was speaking in Samfya yesterday during the handover of two vehicles to Lunga and Samfya districts. Speaking earlier, Samfya district commissioner Nason Bwalya said the programmes would help alleviate poverty among the vulnerable.
Mr Bwalya said the project Government was implementing would also help ensure girls were kept in school.
Meanwhile, Samfya Council Chairperson Francis Musunka thanked President Edgar Lungu for ensuring that the vulnerable in society attained a decent livelihood.
He also urged Ms Kabanshi to ensure a boat was bought for the programme for areas that were hard to reach such as Chishi and Mbabala.
