Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) official Maxmillian Chanda has withdrawn the corruption case against the soccer body chief Andrew Kamanga.
In October Chanda, reported Kamanga to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for alleged corrupt activities after assuming office.
In a letter to ACC and made available to Daily Nation yesterday, Chanda claimed that he was withdrawing the case because FAZ had the capacity to resolve the matter in accordance with its statues and disciplinary codes.
“I wish to inform you that I have decided to withdraw the case I reported at your office involving the abuse of authority involving the FAZ president. I am the member of FAZ which has its own statues and disciplinary codes for its members at which I never attempted at all cost when dealing with this internal and administrative matter,” he said.
He expressed confidence in FAZ ability to resolve the matter through the two judicial bodies of the soccer body.
“I have confidence and trust in the secretariat and our two judicial bodes of FAZ and that this matter will be resolved internally within the statues and disciplinary codes,
“As its member of FAZ through our club Kabwe United Sports Academy am not exceptional to overlook the laid down procedures of resolving internal matters of this general nature. The FAZ constitution provides the laid down procedures that allows me to engage the general secretary who would have engaged the judicial bodies,
“ And if I am not satisfied with the response from the mentioned parties and the next step was to involve National Sports Council pf Zambia and FIFA before coming to your office,” he said.
In his report to ACC, Chanda accused Kamanga of instructing the association’s disciplinary committee not to report Alex Munasha to ACC whose candidature for the position of treasurer at the last FAZ elective meeting was nullified after allegedly falsifying documents.
He also claimed that Kamanga asked association treasurer Rix Mweemba to put a K24, 552 bill incurred by the president and his campaign team at Ndola’s Savoy Hotel on the FAZ account.
sHe further claimed that Mweemba had written a letter to Kamanga asking him to reimburse the association, but the FAZ president is alleged to have refused.
Chanda alleged that Kamanga bought two air tickets to Congo Brazzaville for his friends Zambia Police director of sports and former Nkwazi chairperson Adrian Kashala and Gift Chaipa of NAPSA Stars using FAZ money.
Chanda has been under-fire with the association for attacking the FAZ chief in the media and was recently banned from all football activities.
