Lungu attends APRM

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu was yesterday among other African leaders who attended the 26th session of the Heads of State and government of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.
And APRM Chairperson Uhuru Kenyata, who is also Kenyan President, recognised Zambia and other African countries that had held holding peaceful elections last year.
ZANIS reports that President Lungu is in Addis Ababa Ethiopia attending the 28th ordinary session of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and government which started on January 22 and closes on January 31, 2017.
The APRM is a self-monitoring instrument with voluntary membership whose primary objective is to foster the adoption of policies, values, standards and practices of political and economic governance that lead to political stability, accelerated sub-regional and continental economic integration, economic growth and sustainable development.
While in Ethiopia, the Head of State is expected to chair a working breakfast meeting on the implementation of ending child marriage which will be attended by all member states of the AU.
President Lungu is also expected to witness the official launch of the African Center for Disease Control.
The AU has agreed to set up five regional centers in Africa and Zambia has been chosen to host the regional center for Southern Africa which would be based in Ndola.
This year’s AU summit is being held under the theme: Harnessing the demographic dividend through investment in youth.-ZANIS
