THE ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in North Western Province has warned the opposition UPND councillors, council chairmen and the mayor against being used as political tools.
PF provincial information and publicity secretary Edwin Sekelechi told journalists during a press briefing that civic leaders should desist from being used as political tools for retribution against innocent citizens and council officers perceived to be PF members or sympathisers.
“We ask you to stop victimising citizens on account of tribe and party lines,” he said.
He said the party expected councillors to be above board and lead as civic leaders, adding that they should be mindful that they were not autonomous but under the governance of the PF as the party in Government.
“Especially Solwezi Municipal Council, should you continue on the destructive path, we shall have no option but to recommend for the suspension or dissolution of the council,” he warned.
He also said the councillors should restrain their cadres from going to markets and bus stations to disturb peace there.
He said the ruling party will not condone cadres taking over the running of markets and stations in the province simply because all councils are full of UPND councillors and council chairmen.
“If we the ruling party have restrained our cadres from taking over the running of the markets and bus stations, who are they to send their cadres to run the markets?’’ he asked.
