NEVERS Mumba must concentrate on reviving his dwindling political fortunes instead of antagonizing fellow clergymen who have recognized and respected President Lungu’s presidency, says New Congress Party (NCP) president Pastor Peter Chanda.

In an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Pastor Chanda said the NCP acknowledged sacredness of offices for the clergy, priests, pastors and bishops and respected them because they stood for the supremacy of God’s rule.

“Dr. Nevers Mumba should be the one who must understand biblical facts which clearly state that every government is ordained by God and every authority comes from God. Every religious leader must work with the government of the day in the line of their duty.

“They are supposed to show respect and allegiance to the governing authority because that is what the scriptures say. I have a lot of respect for Dr. Nevers Mumba but it is definitely uncalled for, for him to condemn men of God that are supporting the Patriotic Front because every person has a democratic right to support a party of their choice,” Pastor Chanda said.

“At the same time we don’t overrule the fact that there are other clergymen that support the opposition. If the other pastors, including Dr. Nevers Mumba himself, who align themselves with the UPND leader were credible and God-fearing men of integrity who understand the biblical principles, HH and others could not have conducted themselves in a manner they did in Mongu.

“This proves to us that Mr. Hichilema is surrounded by men of God who do not provide sound advice to him. Mr. Hichilema’s political career is diminishing slowly because he is surrounded by men of God who do not advise him properly,” he said.
