ZAMBIA still remains an oasis of peace in Africa and its numerous tourist attractions are worth exploring, says vice president Inonge Wina.
Ms Wina said that Zambia was an oasis of peace and that it had numerous tourist attractions such as the Victoria Falls in Livingstone worth exploring.
The vice President said this when she officiated at the recent 2017 Joint Conference of Confucius Institutes in Africa in Lusaka.
“Zambia, an oasis of peace, and in particular, to the beautiful city of Lusaka. I hope people will take time off their business schedule to explore our beautiful country and visit our numerous tourist attractions” she said.
Meanwhile, Ms Wina has hailed the benefits that had been accrued from the construction of the Tazania- Zambia Railway (TAZARA).
She said in a speech read on her behalf by Minister of General Education Dennis Wanchinga that the establishment of the TAZARA has brought many benefits to Zambia, Tanzania, and surrounding countries, other than just providing railway transportation services.
Ms Wina pointed out that the TAZARA had provided transport for logistics in the fight for independence of the Southern African countries when other routes proved unusable due to hostility from the colonialists.
The “uhuru or freedom railway” as TAZARA is known, contributed to the liberation of Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, as well as South Africa,” she said.
Ms Wina said that the TAZARA had been a catalyst for growth and expansion of small settlements along the line which had now become big districts and towns.
She pointed out that the countries benefiting from the TAZARA included Zambia, Tanzania, democratic republic of Congo, Malawi, Zimbabwe, the great lakes region and South Africa through provision of cheaper, secure and predictable transport services.
