ZAMBIA  has engaged with Israel on the National Transport master plan to see how the country can improve on  its transportation system, says Minister of Transport and Communication Brian Mushimba.

Mr Mushimba said wanted to learn from the Middle East country on how it had connected all modes of transportation for the benefit of Lusaka.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Mushimba said that Israel had done a lot with scarce resources but had utilised technology, research and innovation for a country that was practically a desert but had managed to turn itself literally into a paradise.

He said that his area of interest was on efficient transport system as well as networks because that was how Israel had managed to have a multi modal type of transportation which connected all types of transport such as air, water, road and railway.

The minister said that the National Transport master plan had reached an advanced stage and that the Israelis would soon make a presentation on the matter.

Mr Mushimba who is Kankoyo Patriotic Front Member of Parliament said that the spirit of the trip to Israel that President Edgar Lungu undertook with strategic key ministries of interest was for them to cooperate and learn something from Tel Aviv.

“Specifically for my ministry there were issues around efficient transport system and networks and multi modal system where you connect all modes of transportation such as air, water, road and rail,

“We wanted to see how they have done that, especially that we are doing a National Transport master plan with them which is in its advanced stage and in fact the Israelis are coming to present that,” Mr Mushimba said.

He said that Israel had done well in advancing its digital migration and that it was one of the best in cyber security, adding that it was vital to share knowledge as well as expertise with them.

Mr Mushimba said that a computer assembling plant would be set up working with Israel which he said would manufacture cheap computers in Zambia.
