THE Zambia National Services (ZNS) yesterday donated assorted goods and food stuffs worth over K 125,000 to Fountain Gate Homes in Kapil Yomba area, in Chongwe.

The donation was made by ZNS Lieutenant -General Commandant Nathan Mulenga with other ZNS members of staff.

In making the donation, Gen Mulenga said the service decided to choose a Christmas Day to visit and donate the goods to the orphanage because they wanted to appreciate children for accepting to be where they were instead of being in their guardians or parents homes.

He said it was also another way of appreciating the mothers who had accepted the role of keeping children from the ages of  three months to 16 years without even knowing their backgrounds.

Gen Mulenga said that it was his hope that God willing, a solution could be found to expand the orphanage so that more vulnerable children from the streets could have decent lives.

He had no doubts that the items donated would be put to  good use.

And the Matron of the orphanage Dora Mubanga , said she was thankful to the service for remembering the vulnerable children and that she was speechless as she had not seen such a huge donation from the time immemorial.

Ms Mubanga stated that the orphanage which was a faith based organization had 110 children and most of them were referrals from Chongwe Social Welfare.

She said that the orphanage was also faced with a number of challenges such as a shortage of classrooms to accommodate the children and other local children so that the children did not feel isolated.

And Founder member of the orphanage Esther Reuters said she was pleased with the gesture taken by the service by remembering the vulnerable children of Fountain Gate on a very special and important day.

Ms Reuters appealed to other well-wishers to come on board and help the children in needy.

Meanwhile, Tembanacle of Love and Faith Ministries celebrated their Christmas by giving food stuff to the disabled at Miracle Disabled Orphanage in Lusaka’s George compound.

Speaking during the donation the pastor, Justine Phiri said Christmas was a time to express love to one another.

“Love is about giving and today is a divine appointment to give to the vulnerable in our society and to show love is to give  since Jesus sacrificed by giving us his son we must also give, “he said.

He said faith without deeds was useless hence the need to give.
