THERE will be fundamental changes in the operations and performance of the Zambia Revenue Authority in 2017, says Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda.

Mr Chanda said the Authority embarked on a huge transformation exercise for the 2017 period that would result in ZRA being a responsive institution towards the needs of the country and its people.

He said ZRA was working out a programme to enhance tax compliance among the members of the general public.

“In 2017, there will be fundamental changes in the way the Authority administers taxes in order to increase tax compliance, and compliant taxpayers will be put on schemes that give them enough time to pay their taxes.

“ZRA will reward those compliant taxpayers and also ruthlessly punish non-compliance,” he said.

He explained that he wanted to see a completely transformed ZRA that was responding to the needs of the country as agents of the people in revenue collection.

He charged that the tax man should be able to ensure to take care of its main three components of its business including the people, products and profits made by the various categories of business in different location.

He has since applauded ZRA employees for their dedication towards work and for drastically reducing the annual revenue deficit recorded previously.

He said there was need for him to clean up the operations of the Authority in view of revenue collection to maximise the scope of operations for the purpose of raising income in tax payments.
