By Makokwa Clara Muyendekwa

The country has enough maize grain and is food secure, Vice president Mutale Nalumango has said.

The vice president said this when she inspected some maize storages in Kalomo Town of Southern Province on Thursday.

She however said there was need to be cautious on how the government will sell the current available grain, saying the flood impact was still unpredictable.

She added that the new dawn government shall continue to work with the  Food Reserve Agency and farmers to ensure food security in the country.

And Ms Nalumango said government will keep working towards mitigating the challenges of flooding following heavy rains and storms experience in the country.

She observed that there was need to come up with permanent solutions to address the flooding situation in the country.

“We need to have permanent solutions so that this issue does not become perennial,  where Kanyama or Mtendere is flooded year in year out,” said Mrs Nalumango.

She also appealed to local and international stakeholders to come on board and help in mitigating the flood challenge.

The Vice President was on her tour of duty in Southern Province and was expected to also visit the flood victims in Namwala District.
