HUNGER LOOMING IN ZAMBIA – GBM
By VITA BANDA
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) national chairperson for mobilisation Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has warned that the country will face high levels of hunger following the decision by Government to remove vulnerable people on the Farmers Input Support Programme for the coming farming season.
Mr Mwamba said Zambians need to brace themselves for hard times because of careless decision being made.
He said the action also was clear that the new dawn administration does not have a heart for the poor Zambians.
Mr Mwamba also said the UPND government is not treating the agriculture sector with the seriousness it deserves.
He said with the poor agriculture policies being provided, there will be a maize deficit next year which will lead to escalating mealie meal prices.
He said mealie meal will only be cheaper if the government decide to subsidise it but that cannot happen as it is against the International Monetary Fund conditions.
Mr Mwamba said under the PF administration, the country recorded bumper harvests due to sound agricultural policies.
