Don’t politicize death of presidential sweeper – Nalumango
By GIDEON NYENDWA
VICE PRESIDENT, Mutale Nalumango has questioned how the vehicle that collided with the President Hakainde Hichilema’s motorcade sweeper and caused the death of police officer found its way onto the presidential route.
Mrs. Nalumango said each time the presidential motorcade was passing, the roads were cleared by police and it would be prudent to find how that vehicle found itself on the cleared road and the motive for doing so. She said this during the Vice President’s question time in parliament when Mpika Member of Parliament, Robert Kapyanga asked a question on whether President Hakainde Hichilema would consider moving to State House from his private residence considering that his movements had caused the death of two people.
But Mrs. Nalumango said accidents happen all the time and it was wrong to think that just because it was President Hichilema, then he was the one who caused the accident.
She said even if Mr Hichilema had been staying in State House he would still need to move to different places and attributing the accident to the fact that President Hichilema stayed in his private home was not being sincere.
“Am sorry can say something wrong madam, we have to see how the accident happened because the roads are cleared, we can also saying was it a plan but we will not do that because accidents happen,” Mrs Nalumango said.
Mrs. Nalumango said even if Mr Hichilema was staying at State House, he would not be locked up, meaning an accident would still happen.
She said leader should be responsible by not making any situation political when actually the nation was supposed to be sad because a life was lost.
A police officer was killed in a road traffic accident that occurred on Thursday Lusaka.
The 40 year old Sergeant Mike Mumba, was riding a BMW motorbike on the presidential sweeper when he collided with a Toyota Allex at the junction of Mosi-O-Tunya and Nyatwa Roads.
