THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has expressed deep sorrow following the death of former Green Eagles chairman, Brigadier General Jim Koshita Kafumukach.  He died away on Thursday at the Maina Soko Medical Centre in Lusaka.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga described Kafumukache as a “great mind” whose contributions to Zambian football were invaluable.

“Football has been robbed of a great mind that contributed so much to the game,” Kamanga said in a press statement.

“On behalf of the FAZ executive committee, the football family, and myself, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to Green Eagles Football Club, the ZNS command, and the family of Brigadier General Kafumukache on the death of one of football’s loyal servants.”

Kamanga also highlighted Kafumukache’s significant impact on the Green Eagles FC, particularly during their successful participation in continental competitions.

“We were lucky that at the time of the deceased’s service to the game, we collaborated very closely, and he was always available for football gatherings in both good and bad times,” Kamanga noted. “We will remember him fondly for being part of Green Eagles Football Club’s glorious period that saw them participate in CAF competitions.”

Under Kafumukache’s leadership from 2018 to 2021, Eagles made a significant mark in African football, including a memorable victory over South African giants Orlando Pirates in the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League.

Kamanga said Kafumukache’s legacy would continue to inspire the sport, particularly in Southern Province where CAF football was brought to prominence.
