Kamanga asks court not to allow AG defend Elvis Nkandu

FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has asked the Lusaka High Court to reject the Attorney General’s attempt to defend Elvis Nkandu, the Sports Minister, in the defamation case.
Kamanga in his affidavit in opposition contended that Nkandu has been sued in his personal capacity, and that any statements or actions attributed to him arise from his personal agenda to undermine his (Kamanga’s) leadership of FAZ.
He contended that Nkandu cannot hide behind his official capacity as Minister of Youth, Sports, and Arts.
Kamanga argued that the state has no obligation to represent a government official in matters pursued strictly in a personal capacity. “That Nkandu’s statements and actions have been undertaken to further his personal agenda to remove me from my position at FAZ. Such conduct, being of a personal nature, necessitates that he defends himself in his personal capacity without recourse to state resources or representation,” he argued.
In this matter, Kamanga alleged that Nkandu and former FAZ general secretary Adrian Kashala orchestrated a concerted effort to diminish his authority as FAZ president.
The alleged actions include public accusations, a sustained campaign against Kamanga’s leadership, and even an attempt to reinstate former FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya in a supervisory role over national teams.
