.LEADUNSUPPORTIVE FATHER CHARGED…for failing to take responsibility of his biological son

A 30-YEAR-OLD man of Lusaka has appeared in court for failing to take responsibility of his biological son.Damyano Mpongo, a general worker, accused of failing to support his own son and providing basic needs when he appeared at the Lusaka Magistrate.Mpongo is charged with failure to exercise parental responsibility contrary to Section 44 and read together with 38(1) of the Children’s Code Act No. 12 of 2022 of the laws of Zambia.It is alleged that Mpongo between June 17 2024, and August 3, 2024 in Lusaka failed and refused to exercise parental responsibility over LM whom to his knowledge is his biological son.

Mpongo appeared before Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili for allocation and is expected to take plea.Meanwhile, a security guard, Mathews Chola, 37, has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrate Court accused of being found in possession of property believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.Chola pleaded not guilty to being found in possession of property believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained contrary to section 319 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

.Particulars of the offence are that Chola on October 13, 2024 in Lusaka had in his possession 16mm x 2 Core, wire cables believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.Trial continues
