Lusaka maid in court for theft

A LUSAKA maid has found herself in hot soup after she was caught stealing assorted plates, spoons, clothes and other items all valued at over K10, 000.Anna Phiri, aged 32, is charged with one count of theft by servant and one count of house breaking and theft contrary to Section 301(a) and 272 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Phiri appeared before magistrate Kelvin Soma and denied stealing the charge.In the first count, it is alleged that Phiri on January 10, 2024 in Lusaka being employed by Mr John Mwela as a maid stole one motor vehicle battery valued at K1, 550 from him.In count two, Phiri on March, 28, 2024 in Lusaka with intent to steal did break into the dwelling house of Mr Mwela and stole one phone valued at K6, 000.
Details in the last count, alleged that Phiri on a date unknown but between April 1, 2024 and June 10, 2024 in Lusaka being employed by Lassy Lungu as a maid did steal assorted plates, assorted spoons, assorted clothes and hand bag altogether valued at K12, 270.Trial continues.
