LWANDAMINA SET TO JOIN NCHANGA RANGERS AFTER ZESCO EXIT

By BARNABAS ZULU

VETERAN coach George Lwandamina is poised to take over as head coach of Nchanga Rangers following his departure from Zesco United, according to sources close to the Chingola outfit.
Lwandamina, 61, is set to sign a two-year contract with the struggling side and will be unveiled later this week.
Lwandamina, who was recently dismissed by Zesco United after their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup, is expected to bring his wealth of experience to Nchanga as they aim to stave off relegation.
“Lwandamina has agreed to join Nchanga Rangers on a two-year deal,” a source familiar with the matter disclosed.
The new technical bench for Nchanga will also include Mulwanda Boyd, Israel Mwanza and Yona Phiri. The club has been in a poor run of form, currently sitting 15th in the Zambian Super League, just above the relegation zone with only 10 points from 11 matches.

With two wins, four draws, and five losses so far this season, the club is hoping Lwandamina’s leadership will turn their fortunes around.
“Lwandamina will be unveiled as the new head coach later this week,” the source said.
The appointment comes after the departure of Robert Tembo, who was sent on administrative leave along with his technical bench due to a string of disappointing results.
Lwandamina’s exit from Zesco United was confirmed on August 29, 2024, after the team was knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup by Zimbabwean side Harare Dynamos.
Lwandamina had previously enjoyed a successful tenure at Zesco, but the club’s early exit from continental competition and a lack of progress in the domestic league led to his dismissal.
He has managed top clubs not only in Zambia but also in Tanzania. He has previously coached renowned teams like Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba Sports Club, two of Tanzania’s most successful sides.
Lwandamina’s time at Zesco United saw him win the Zambian Super League title and achieve significant success in continental football, most notably guiding Zesco to the semifinals of the CAF Champions League in 2017.
