Musamba has read the writing on the wall – Chisanga
By BARNABAS ZULU
GEORGE Chisanga, has charged that Inspector General of Police, Graphael Musamba, is anticipating a huge electoral defeat for the UPND in 2026, hence his plan to recruit 3, 000 police officers whose special duties would be to manipulate the outcome of the 2026 general election.
Mr. Musamba’s recent request for 3, 000 additional police officers to specifically oversee the 2026 general elections has sparked the accusations that the UPND has commenced the process of rigging elections.
Speaking at a press briefing, Mr. Chisanga, who is the Patriotic Front (PF) chairperson for legal has linked Mr. Musamba’s request to the biblical story of Daniel and Belshazzar, arguing that Mr. Musamba, like the Babylonian king, had read the writing on the wall.
“I want to remind you that if you remember very well, the writing on the wall came from the story of Daniel and Belshazzar, the king of Babylon, the son of Nebuchadnezzar,” Mr. Chisanga said.
“There was one time when he felt the comfort of being the king. He actually enjoyed and had thrown a banquet to celebrate victory. Then there was the writing on the wall. He (Belshazzar” was confused and didn’t realise where it was coming from, but Daniel, graced by the Lord, interpreted the writing,” Mr Chisanga said.
Mr. Chisanga accused Mr. Musamba of being caught in a political struggle, but warned that no Zambians had already decided and that any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the 2026 general election shall be met with massive resistance.
“We had started being sympathetic towards him. We thought he was not receiving support because of the difficult environment, because the UPND has come as a dictatorial hooligan. They had given him specific instructions of what to do in terms of pushing the opposition,” he said.
He suggested that despite the UPND’s best efforts, the opposition had only grown stronger in recent years.
Mr. Chisanga warned that the UPND, particularly President Hakainde Hichilema, fears a strong opposition challenge in 2026.
Referring to Mr. Musamba’s request for additional police officers, Mr. Chisanga said; “When you begin to hear people like Mr. Graphael Musamba pleading for officers to man the 2026 general elections, it is because he has read the writing on the wall. The writing on the wall has made it very clear that if you hold an election today, the UPND will not return victorious.”
Mr. Chisanga accused the UPND of preparing to manipulate the elections through a combination of police and electoral tactics.
“Part of their grand scheme is to come and impose their will on the people of Zambia. They think that by employing a battalion of police officers specifically for the elections, they will be protected. But there will be nowhere to run to,” he stated.
Reflecting on the 2021 elections, Mr. Chisanga emphasized the contrast between the UPND and the PF.
“We had elections with the same number of police officers, even in 2021. The same police officers were managing elections and by-elections, and we even lost. As a democratic party, we handed over power. We didn’t want to impose ourselves on the people. The peoples’ will prevailed over us. Why are they afraid?” he asked.
Mr. Chisanga also claimed that newly recruited officers, many of whom came from Lilayi Police College, had begun to see through the UPND’s tactics.
