UPND living in fool’s paradise – Msoni

NASON Msoni, leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), has issued a stark warning to the United Party for National Development (UPND), suggesting that the political landscape in Zambia is on the brink of change similar to that seen in Botswana.

Mr Msoni pointed to Botswana’s recent election of Duma Gideon Boko, who took over from President Mokgwetsi Masisi after his party, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), completed a single term. 

“The assertion by the UPND government that the winds of change blowing in neighbouring countries will not affect them is tantamount to living in a fool’s paradise,” he said.

He underscored the historical precedent, recalling how the UNIP government similarly dismissed signs of impending change in the early 1990s, only to be ousted from power. 

“History has a tendency of repeating itself,” Mr Msoni said, adding, “The challenges facing Zambians today are far more overwhelming than those that led to regime change in Botswana.”

He warned that the wind of change has already reached the shores of Zambia and it is only a matter of time before it is affected.

“The winds of change have already hit the shores of the great Zambezi River; it’s just a question of when, not if,” Mr Msoni said.

He said “Nowhere else in the world does a ruling political party with such negative narratives get elected back into government.”
