By BARNABAS ZULU

CHINESE Ambassador to Zambia Hang Jing, has commended Zambia’s impressive progress over the past 60 years, emphasising the country’s long-term peace and stability and economic development in various sectors.
Mr Hang says the remarkable strides Zambia has made since gaining independence in 1964 was just impressive.
Mr Hang said this during the launch of an art exhibition commemorating Zambia’s 60th anniversary of independence and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Zambia and China.
The exhibition was held on Thursday at the Chongwe Community Art Gallery.
“It’s a great pleasure for me to attend the launch of the art exhibition to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Zambia’s independence and the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zambia,” Mr Hang said, before expressing gratitude to the Zambia-China Friendship Association and the Chongwe Community Art Gallery for organising the event.
He also thanked the artists for their contributions.
Reflecting on Zambia’s achievements, Mr Hang said; “In the 60 years since its independence, Zambia has achieved long-term peace and stability, and considerable progress in the development of its economy, society, and culture.”
He also highlighted the enduring relationship between China and Zambia, emphasising the profound all-weather friendship enjoyed by the two nations over the past six decades.
Mr Hang referred to the successful state visit of President Hakainde Hichilema to China in September 2023, which led to the elevation of bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership.
He noted that President Xi Jinping and President Hichilema met again in September at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, where they exchanged views on strengthening China-Zambia ties.
“China stands ready to expand cooperation and share development opportunities with Zambia, thus contributing to the modernisation of Zambia and Africa as a whole,” he said.
