ZAMBIA’S CREATIVE INDUSTRY GETS K200,000 SUPPORT FROM THE MUVOMBO DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE AT THE 2024 NGOMA AWARDS LAUNCH

At this years Ngoma Awards, launch Winter Muvombo, Managing Director of the Muvombo Development Initiative (MDI), delivered an inspiring message while presenting a cheque of K200,000 into the event. Despite being a young NGO, under six months old, MDI has already established itself as a champion for youth empowerment, arts and sports. Speaking at the event, Mr. Muvombo emphasised the initiative’s commitment to work hand-in-hand with the government to uplift Zambia’s creative sector.

“MDI may be new, but our dedication is strong,” Mr. Muvombo stated passionately. “We believe that the youth are not just our future they are the government’s project, and investing in them is investing in Zambia’s tomorrow. Our commitment to the arts, sports and youth development runs deep, and we see these areas as vital to building a vibrant, progressive society. MDI will continue to supplement the government’s efforts, empowering our young artists and sportspeople to dream bigger and reach new heights.”

The Honourable Elvis Nkandu, Minister of Arts, Sports and Youth, praised MDI for its significant contribution, highlighting that the partnership with organisations like MDI reinforces the government’s vision for a dynamic creative industry. “The Ngoma Awards are more than just a ceremony, they are a symbol of our shared heritage and our aspirations. The government recognises the arts as a powerful tool for social cohesion and positive change,” Hon. Nkandu remarked.

The event also saw generous contributions from other sponsors, including USD 100,000 from Vedanta’s Konkola Copper Mines, K250,000 from Gatbro International Limited and K85,000 from Stanbic, National Breweries showered it’s love for the sector with K75,000 worth of stock and Best Life Insurance pushed in K20,000 These contributions which funded the awards, promoting Zambia’s artistic talent and cultural pride. MDI’s commitment, alongside other sponsors, stands as a testament to the crucial role of the private sector in nurturing Zambia’s creative landscape and supporting the growth of local economies through the arts.
