Farmers urged to embrace conservation farming techniques

THE Small-Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA) has called for a strong need for farmers to embrace conservation farming techniques to ensure good security and higher yields in the face of climate change.

This call comes as the agricultural sector grapples with the impact of erratic weather patterns.

Zambia like many other African countries has experienced increasingly unpredictable rainfall patterns.

SAFADA Executive Director, Boyd Moobwe observed that this has put pressure on the agriculture sector which is one of the key pillars of the country’s economy.

Mr. Moobwe said it is important for farmers to adopt conservation practices such as tillage, crop rotation and efficient water management.

He said these are key in ensuring sustaining the agriculture sector amid the climate change challenges.

Mr. Moobwe said the weather patterns cannot be controlled but farmers can learn and adopt better farming practices to better cope with the challenges.
