Human Right hails Government on granting death penalty abolishment

THE Human Rights Commission (HRC) has commended Government for acceding, without any reservations, to the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) that aims at abolishing the Death Penalty.
HRC spokesperson, Mweelwa Muleya said the depositing of the instruments of accession to the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR with the United Nations Secretary General in New York was a firm global commitment that no one shall be executed within Zambia’s boundaries.
The instruments were deposited by the Minister of Justice, Princes Kasune on December 19, 2024. He also commended the National Assembly for approving that the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR should be acceded to, without any reservation, which entails that CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
