Opposition needs honesty, compromise to remove UPND – Muhabi
By BARNABAS ZULU
THE Zambia We Want has called for honesty and compromise within the opposition if they are to successfully unite ahead of the 2026 general elections if the UPND has to be defeated and removed from office.
Muhabi Lungu, the spokesperson of the Zambia We Want says that there is urgent and significant need for the opposition to come together to remove the UPND from power.
He said; “The UPND government has caused a lot of ethnic division and has failed to deliver on their promises. This makes it easier for Zambians to remove them from power in 2026. What is needed now is a united opposition that will remove the UPND from power.”
However, Mr. Lungu pointed out that the main obstacle to opposition unity has been the lack of honesty and compromise, particularly among the larger political parties.
“What has hampered alliances in Zambia is that there is no honesty and compromise on the part of political parties, especially big political parties,” he explained.
He cited the United Kwacha Alliance as an example of a failed project, stating, “The United Kwacha Alliance was a failed project because everyone wanted to be in power, rather than trying to serve Zambians.”
Mr. Lungu warned that as long as the opposition remains fragmented, they will continue to suffer the consequences of losing elections. “As long as there is fragmentation in the opposition, then we will continue to suffer the brunt of losing elections,” he said.
