Democracy beyond the electoral process – Dr Haabazoka

DEMOCRACY is not merely about elections, but about ensuring that the rights and freedoms of individuals are protected and respected as well as ensuring that those who have left public office are allowed to live freely without the fear of political retribution, Dr. Lubinda Haabazoka has observed.
Dr. Haabazoka, an economist and former president of the Economic Association of Zambia (EAZ) says democracy was beyond the periodical electoral process, but was a system of governance that was focused on the protection of fundamental freedoms such as the right to free speech, movement, and association.
