Govt spends K12.7bn on debt servicing

GOVERNMENT last month spent K12.7 billion on servicing domestic and external debt, as Finance and National Planning Minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane warns that Zambia would have been spending over 90 percent of its monthly budget on servicing the dues had it not restructure its obligations.

The amount set aside to service debt is part of the K23.1 billion released in December 2024 for public service delivery.

It is equivalent to 55 percent of the K23.7 billion for debt service (domestic and external) and arrears.
