TAZARA workers dismiss reports of salary galore

THE Crews and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CAWUZ) has disclosed that the K37 million Government has released to pay salary arrears to Tanzania-Zambia Railways Authority (TAZARA) workers is not enough to clear the three months’ arrears because the money was calculated on old salaries and not what the union had bargained for in their collective agreement.
CAWUZ president Bevis Silumbe says unionised workers had a salary adjustment that was over 30 percent which took effect in July last year but the amount the government has released was based on old salaries.
