Violence mars Youth Day

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) youths in Lusaka and Kitwe were forced to abandon the International Youth Day celebrations after they were attacked by cadres in UPND regalia, leaving scores injured after realizing that they had been dwarfed in numbers as the ruling party.

The UPND cadres, armed with an assortment of crude weapons, including pangas, iron bars, sticks, shot buttons chains, stones, knobkerries and stones became violent after realizing that they had been outnumbered by the PF youths who had turned up in large numbers, completely overshadowing the ruling party.

The violence left scores of the PF youths with serious injuries after they were attacked while marching with the Zambia Police officers policing the celebrations being turned into bystanders and onlookers.
